Men's Jewellery

Men's jewellery can be subtle and understated or bold and highly personal.

There are no fixed rules around what men's jewellery should look like. The right piece depends on personal style, proportions, comfort, lifestyle and how it will actually be worn.

Key Takeaways

Start With His Style

Look at the jewellery, watch and metal colours he already wears. Personal style matters more than whether a design is traditionally considered masculine or feminine.

Proportion Matters

Ring width, bracelet fit, chain thickness, pendant weight and diamond size can completely change how the same basic design looks and feels.

Design for How It Will Be Worn

For everyday jewellery, comfort, balance, secure construction and durability matter just as much as appearance.

How to Choose
Men's Jewellery

Start by considering:

  • What jewellery he already wears
  • Whether his style is subtle or bold
  • His preferred metal colour
  • Diamonds, gemstones or plain metal
  • How frequently the piece will be worn
  • His size and proportions
  • Whether you'd like to include engraving or another personal detail

From Our Experience…

If you're buying jewellery as a surprise, photos can tell us a lot.

Images showing the person's watch, rings, bracelets or other jewellery can help our specialists understand their style and recommend appropriate proportions, metal colour and level of detail without asking them directly.

Rings

Men's Jewellery

Men's Rings

Men's Rings

Men's rings can range from simple 18k gold bands to diamond-set, signet-style and completely bespoke designs.

A subtle design might incorporate a single diamond, discreet engraving or textured finish, while a statement ring can use larger diamonds, coloured gemstones or more substantial proportions.

The right design should consider the wearer's finger size, lifestyle and how frequently the ring will be worn.

Men's Wedding Bands

Men's Wedding Bands

Men's wedding bands can be created in:

18k White Gold · 18k Yellow Gold · 18k Rose Gold · Platinum

Designs can be plain, textured, engraved or diamond-set, with the width, thickness, profile and finish customised around the wearer.

Fergus James Expert Insight

Wedding bands are normally worn every day, so comfort shouldn't be an afterthought.

A small change in width, thickness or profile can noticeably change how substantial a ring looks and how comfortable it feels.

Men's Bracelets

Men's Bracelets

Popular designs include:

Diamond Tennis Bracelets · Cuban-Link Bracelets · Gemstone Bracelets · Bespoke Designs

The standard men's bracelet length at Fergus James is approximately 19cm, but every bracelet can be adjusted around the customer's wrist and preferred fit.

Some customers prefer a closer fit while others want more movement.

A bracelet should feel secure without being restrictive or repeatedly sliding over the hand.

Men's Chains & Necklaces

Men's Chains & Necklaces

Fergus James creates gold chains, Cuban-link chains, tennis necklaces and bespoke necklace designs.

Important considerations include:

Length · Width · Metal weight · Link style · Clasp · Pendant · Layering

Shorter chains sit closer to the neck, while longer designs fall further down the chest.

Fergus James Expert Insight

Don't choose a men's chain based on length alone.

Width, weight and the wearer's build can completely change how substantial the same length looks.

If a pendant will be added, its weight also needs to be considered when choosing the chain.

Men's Pendants

Men's Pendants

Pendants can incorporate initials, symbols, diamonds, coloured gemstones or completely bespoke designs.

The pendant should be proportionate to the chain supporting it.

A larger or heavier pendant generally requires a stronger chain than a small, understated design.

Fergus James Expert Insight

We consider the pendant and chain together, rather than designing one and treating the other as an afterthought.

The finished piece needs to look balanced and be strong enough for the way it will actually be worn.

Men's Earrings & Diamond Studs

Men's Earrings & Diamond Studs

Diamond studs are one of the most versatile forms of men's diamond jewellery.

Smaller diamonds create a more understated everyday look, while larger stones create greater presence.

Customers can choose:

Diamond shape · Diamond size · Natural or lab-grown · 18k gold colour

Studs can be ordered as a matching pair or for a single piercing.

Fergus James Expert Insight

We wouldn't recommend a stud based on carat weight alone.

Earlobe size, piercing position, diamond dimensions and the amount of presence you want all affect which size looks best.

What's
Your Style?

Style

What's
Your Style?

Minimal & Understated

Minimal & Understated

Clean shapes, simple metal finishes and restrained diamond or gemstone details.

Think plain gold bands, small diamond studs, fine chains, discreet pendants and understated bracelets.

Classic

Classic

Established designs that remain easy to wear over time.

Think gold wedding bands, tennis bracelets, Cuban-link chains and traditional cufflinks.

Bold & Statement

Bold & Statement

Larger proportions, heavier metal, coloured gemstones, multiple diamonds or more diamond-intensive settings.

Signet-Style

Signet-Style

A flat or raised ring face that can remain plain or incorporate initials, dates, family symbols, gemstones or completely custom artwork.

Fergus James Expert Insight

Making jewellery more masculine doesn't necessarily mean making everything bigger.

We can adjust width, thickness, metal weight, diamond size, proportions and finishing while keeping the fundamental design clean.

Natural or
Lab-Grown Diamonds?

Diamonds

Natural or
Lab-Grown Diamonds?

Fergus James offers both without preference towards either.

Natural Diamonds

Chosen for their natural origin and rarity.

For men's jewellery, we normally use:

G–H Colour · VS to carefully selected SI Clarity+

Lab-Grown Diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds have the same fundamental physical and chemical properties as natural diamonds but differ in origin, relative rarity and price.

We normally use:

E–F Colour · VS Clarity+

Their lower price can allow for a larger diamond or more diamond-intensive design within the same budget.

Neither is automatically better. The right choice depends on your priorities.

Coloured Diamonds
& Gemstones

Gemstones

Coloured Diamonds
& Gemstones

Coloured stones can be anything from a subtle detail to the focal point of the design.

Pictured on the left: Fergus James Black Diamond Cross Pendant

Popular options include:

Black Diamond · Fancy Yellow Diamond · Sapphire · Ruby · Emerald

Other gemstones can also be sourced for individual designs.

We'd consider the gemstone's colour, durability, size and relationship with the metal and overall design, rather than choosing it simply because it's traditionally associated with men's jewellery.

Metal

Choosing
Your Metal

Most Fergus James men's jewellery is available in:

18k White Gold · 18k Yellow Gold · 18k Rose Gold

Men's wedding bands are also available in platinum.

White Gold

Clean and contemporary, pairing naturally with white diamonds, black diamonds and cooler-toned jewellery.

Yellow Gold

Warmer and more traditional. Particularly popular for chains, Cuban links, bracelets and signet-style rings.

Rose Gold

A softer pink tone and more distinctive alternative to white or yellow gold.

Platinum

Naturally white and dense, with additional weight that can appeal to customers who prefer a more substantial-feeling wedding band.

Getting the
Proportions Right

Proportions

Getting the
Proportions Right

Good men's jewellery should feel secure and substantial without restricting movement or feeling unnecessarily heavy.

Rings

Rings

Should pass over the knuckle with slight resistance without feeling tight at the base of the finger.

Wider bands can feel tighter than narrower rings in the same nominal size.

Read our full Ring Size Guide here Ring Size Guide
Bracelets

Bracelets

Should allow comfortable movement without repeatedly sliding over the hand.

Fergus James uses approximately 19cm as a standard men's bracelet length, adjusted where required.

Pendants & Chains

Pendants & Chains

Consider the wearer's build, desired position on the chest, chain width and whether a pendant will be added.

The size and weight should be proportionate to the chain. Heavier pendants generally require stronger chains.

Diamond Studs

Diamond Studs

Should sit securely against the ear without the setting pulling or tilting excessively.

Fergus James Expert Insight

We look beyond the stated measurement.

Two pieces with the same nominal size can look and feel completely different depending on their width, thickness, dimensions and weight.

That's particularly important when creating jewellery to order.

Bespoke
Men's Jewellery

Bespoke

Bespoke
Men's Jewellery

Most Fergus James men's jewellery can be customised around the individual wearer.

You can personalise:

Jewellery Type · Dimensions · Proportions · Natural or Lab-Grown Diamonds · Diamond Shape & Size · Gemstones · Metal · Setting · Size · Weight · Finish · Engraving · Overall Design

If you already have an idea, photograph or reference piece, you can use our Upload Your Dream Design service.

Our team can recreate the concept or adapt it around the wearer's style, dimensions and budget.

Complimentary engraving is also available where the design allows, including initials, names, dates and short messages.

From Our Experience…

Bespoke doesn't necessarily mean elaborate.

Sometimes the most important customisations are subtle — changing a ring's width, increasing the weight of a chain, adjusting a bracelet's proportions or adding an engraving only the wearer knows is there.

Craftsmanship,
Comfort & Quality

Quality

Craftsmanship,
Comfort & Quality

Every Fergus James piece is handcrafted in our Dubai workshop and inspected after production.

Our quality control considers:

Diamond & Gemstone Matching · Setting Security · Prong Finishing · Clasp Strength · Comfort · Weight · Balance · Surface Finishing · Durability

From Our Experience…

A piece can look impressive and still be poorly designed for the person wearing it.

The finished jewellery should look balanced, feel comfortable and be constructed appropriately for how it will actually be worn.

That becomes particularly important with heavier men's rings, chains, bracelets and diamond-intensive designs.

Production
& Certification

Certification

Production
& Certification

Selected men's diamond studs and tennis bracelets are kept in stock and ready to order.

Most other men's jewellery is custom-made in our Dubai workshop, with production normally taking approximately 10–14 days, depending on complexity and time of year.

Orders can often be fast-tracked for important dates.

For diamond jewellery:

Individual diamonds 0.30ct+ → individual grading reports normally provided

Pieces containing multiple smaller diamonds don't normally include an individual report for every stone.

A jewellery report for the finished piece can also be arranged on request.

How to Choose the Right Men's Jewellery

When comparing your options, we'd focus on:

  1. Personal style
  2. Type of jewellery
  3. Size and proportions
  4. How frequently it will be worn
  5. Metal colour
  6. Natural or lab-grown diamonds
  7. Gemstones or personal details
  8. Comfort and weight
  9. Construction and security
  10. Customisation

Fergus James Expert Insight

Start with the person rather than the product.

What they already wear, their proportions and their lifestyle often tell us more about the right piece than whether something is labelled as "men's jewellery".
