Oval Diamond Engagement Rings

Oval engagement rings are quickly becoming the shape of choice for many couples. The visual impact of an oval engagement ring stems from its elongated brilliant cut and dazzling luster, making it a stunning option. The Fergus James Oval diamond ring collection is exceptional, offering everything from the effortless grace of classic styles to the striking allure of powerful halo rings.
The oval diamond shines across all design choices and proves to be incredibly versatile. If you're considering a trilogy oval engagement ring, it pairs beautifully with pear-shaped and tapered baguette side stones. The real allure of an oval diamond engagement ring lies in its impressive spread; for example, a 1 carat oval diamond often appears larger than other 1 carat diamonds, with the exception of a marquise shape.
Oval diamonds also grow in beauty with size, making them a favored choice among celebrities. Stars like Blake Lively, Jennifer Aniston, and Hailey Bieber proudly wear large oval diamond engagement rings. Blake Lively's unique rose gold ring features sweeping lines and original curves, while Hailey Bieber showcases a more classic oval design in a beautifully elegant four-claw setting.
So, what makes these celebrities choose the oval shape over other popular options like emerald, round, pear, or Asscher cut diamonds? While the exact reasons may vary, it’s safe to say that the impact and dazzling appearance of the oval diamond play a significant role.
For those looking to buy a 3 carat, 4 carat, or 5 carat oval ring, these sizes come with a higher price tag, but a 1 carat oval-shaped diamond remains within reach for many. The Fergus James team of diamond curators and ring designers is here to help you find your perfect oval diamond ring match. Please contact us for personalised support.

Focus on Dimensions
Check the actual mm length and width dimensions (noted on the diamond certificate) of the Oval, not just the carat weight. A well cut 0.9ct oval will have better dimensions, and look bigger, than many 1ct oval diamonds. Considering this helps to maximise visual impact and reduce the cost.

Check the Length to Width Ratio
Not all Ovals are the same “shape”. Some are longer and thinner (they have a high LTW ratio) whilst others are shorter and fatter (they have a low LTW ratio). A nice length to width ratio is between 1.3 – 1.6. L/W=LTW Ratio.

Colour is Important
Ovals show colour more than round diamonds because of their large spread. For a single solitaire design aim for i colour or better. For a halo design aim for G colour or better.
