Why Do Customers in Ireland Buy
Engagement Rings From Dubai?

Why Dubai

Why Do Customers in Ireland Buy
Engagement Rings From Dubai?

Dubai is one of the world's major diamond-trading centres. Its international supply network gives Fergus James access to a large selection of natural and lab-grown diamonds across different shapes, sizes and specifications.

For Irish customers, the main advantages are value, choice, personal service, quality and aftercare.

Buying through Fergus James gives Irish customers access to:

  • Competitive Dubai pricing
  • Natural and lab-grown diamonds
  • GIA and IGI certification
  • A dedicated diamond specialist throughout the process
  • Complimentary bespoke design
  • CAD approval before production
  • Unlimited complimentary CAD revisions
  • Rings handcrafted in the Fergus James Dubai workshop
  • Fully insured delivery to Ireland
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Complimentary eligible resizing through an aftercare partner in Dublin

Fergus James does not charge an additional premium simply because a ring is bespoke. The objective is to create the exact ring the customer wants while maximising the quality and visual impact available within their budget.

Can Buying an Engagement Ring
From Dubai Save Money?

Can Buying an Engagement Ring
From Dubai Save Money?

It can. Diamond prices vary according to origin, size, shape, cut, colour, clarity, certification and market availability. The price of the finished ring is also affected by its metal weight, setting construction, craftsmanship and retailer margin.

Dubai's position as an international diamond hub gives Fergus James access to extensive global diamond supply without the large brand premiums associated with major luxury houses.

Value does not simply mean finding the cheapest diamond. The aim is to compare suitable stones and maximise the quality, size and visual impact available within your budget.

However, customers should compare more than the headline price. Two rings that appear similar online can differ substantially in:

  • Diamond cut and visual performance
  • Certification
  • Diamond measurements
  • Milkiness, tint or visible inclusions
  • Gold purity and weight
  • Band thickness
  • Setting construction
  • Manufacturing quality
  • Warranty
  • Resizing and aftercare

Fergus James is not positioned as the cheapest possible jeweller. The focus is on excellent diamond selection, substantial ring construction, careful quality control and long-term customer support.

Are There Additional Irish Taxes or Import Charges?

Pricing & Taxes

Are There Additional Irish Taxes or Import Charges?

Jewellery entering Ireland from outside the European Union may be subject to Irish import VAT, customs duty or related clearance charges. These are separate from the UAE's domestic tax rules.

Fergus James clearly explains the applicable shipping costs and estimated destination taxes or duties within the customer's quotation, so the expected delivered cost is understood before the order is confirmed.

The Fergus James team also prepares the necessary commercial invoice and shipping documentation. Requirements can change, so the final quotation and current Irish customs rules should always be checked when placing the order.

How Does the Remote Bespoke Process Work?

Process

How Does the Remote Bespoke Process Work?

An Irish customer can complete the entire process without travelling to Dubai.

Step 1

Step 1

Share Your Requirements

Contact Fergus James through WhatsApp, email, the website enquiry form or the Upload Your Dream Design service.

You can provide:

  • Reference images
  • Preferred ring style
  • Natural or lab-grown preference
  • Diamond shape and approximate size
  • Metal colour
  • Ring size
  • Budget
  • Engraving
  • Proposal or delivery deadline

If you are unsure about any of these details, your specialist can guide you.

Step 2

Step 2

Speak With a Diamond Specialist

The initial consultation is complimentary and can take place through WhatsApp or video call.

Your specialist will explain the available options without pressuring you towards natural or lab-grown diamonds. The focus is on identifying the best-looking diamond and ring design for your requirements and budget.

Your dedicated specialist remains your point of contact throughout the process, from diamond selection and design through to delivery.

Step 3

Step 3

Compare Suitable Diamonds

Fergus James searches its international diamond supply network and recommends suitable options.

International customers can receive:

  • HD diamond videos
  • Side-by-side comparisons
  • Diamond measurements
  • Grading-report copies
  • Explanations of colour, clarity and cut
  • A personal recommendation from the diamond specialist

This means you are not expected to choose a diamond from a grading report alone.

Fergus James evaluates every proposed diamond individually rather than relying on the grading report alone. Stones may be rejected for weak visual performance, milkiness, unwanted colour nuance, visible inclusions, poor measurements or an obvious bow tie.

Step 4

Step 4

Receive a Complete Quotation

The quotation explains the overall price of the ring, including the selected diamond, setting, metal, CAD design, production and relevant delivery charges.

A 20% deposit secures the selected diamond and begins the design process. The remaining 80% is paid before the ring is dispatched to Ireland.

Step 5

Step 5

Approve the CAD Design

A detailed CAD design is created before production. This allows you to review the ring from multiple angles and confirm its measurements, proportions, metal colour and setting details.

Unlimited complimentary revisions are available. Production begins only after you approve the final design.

Step 6

Step 6

Production & Quality Control

The ring is handcrafted in the Fergus James Dubai workshop.

Production normally takes approximately 7–14 days after the diamond and final CAD design have been approved. Fast-tracking may be available at no additional cost when the workshop schedule and chosen materials allow.

Before dispatch, the ring undergoes quality control and your specialist sends you a real-life video of the completed piece, allowing you to see the finished ring before it leaves Dubai.

Step 7

Step 7

Fully Insured Delivery to Ireland

The finished ring is sent to Ireland using fully insured international DHL Express delivery. Fergus James remains responsible for the shipment until it reaches the customer's specified address, with tracking information provided after dispatch.

The courier may request identification, address confirmation or customs-clearance information from the recipient. Customers should provide any requested details promptly to prevent avoidable delays.

The complete design-to-delivery process can often be completed within approximately two to three weeks, although timing depends on diamond availability, CAD approval, production and customs clearance.

Are Fergus James Diamonds Independently Certified?

Certification

Are Fergus James Diamonds Independently Certified?

Yes. Fergus James normally provides:

  • GIA certification for individual natural diamonds of 0.30ct or more
  • IGI certification for individual lab-grown diamonds of 0.30ct or more
  • Certification exceptions disclosed before purchase
  • An IGI jewellery report where requested and applicable

The grading report is shared before the customer confirms the diamond. Customers can verify the report number directly through the official GIA or IGI website.

Certified diamonds of 0.30ct or more are normally laser-inscribed with their report number. Fergus James checks the inscription and report details during its quality-control process.

Independent certification is important, but it is only the starting point. Every proposed diamond is also assessed individually by Fergus James for its visual appearance and overall performance before being recommended.

Natural or Lab-Grown:
Which Should Irish Customers Choose?

Diamonds

Natural or Lab-Grown:
Which Should Irish Customers Choose?

Natural and lab-grown diamonds are both real diamonds. They share essentially the same chemical, physical and optical properties, but they have different origins and prices.

Natural diamonds are chosen for their geological origin, rarity, tradition and established resale market.

Lab-grown diamonds are chosen by customers who want a larger diamond or higher specifications for a significantly lower initial price. Approximately 80% of current Fergus James engagement-ring customers choose lab-grown diamonds.

Neither option is automatically better. Fergus James offers both and helps customers compare them fairly according to their priorities.

How Can I Confirm a Ring Size Secretly?

Sizing

How Can I Confirm a Ring Size Secretly?

If the engagement is a surprise, Fergus James can help estimate the ring size using:

  • A photograph of your partner's hand
  • An existing ring worn on the correct finger
  • A photograph of an existing ring beside a ruler
  • Height and approximate build
  • Guidance from friends or family
  • Fergus James's internal sizing process

The average Fergus James stock size is EU 52, although EU 50 is also common among female customers.

The initial proposal size does not have to be perfect. Eligible Fergus James engagement rings can be resized after the proposal.

Is Resizing & Aftercare Available in Ireland?

AfterCare

Is Resizing & Aftercare Available in Ireland?

Yes. Buying from Dubai does not mean routinely having to send your ring back to Dubai for support.

Fergus James works with a trusted independent aftercare partner in Dublin that can assist with eligible resizing and selected aftercare services.

This is an aftercare partnership rather than a Fergus James retail store. It allows Irish customers to access local support without routinely sending their ring back to Dubai.

One complimentary initial resize is available for eligible rings, subject to the ring's design and the applicable aftercare terms. Some designs, including full eternity rings, cannot be resized conventionally and may need to be remade.

What Does the Lifetime Warranty Cover?

Warranty

What Does the Lifetime Warranty Cover?

Every eligible Fergus James ring includes a lifetime warranty covering manufacturing and workmanship defects.

Fergus James aftercare can include:

  • Inspection of the setting
  • Professional cleaning
  • Maintenance
  • Prong inspection and re-tipping
  • Rhodium replating for white gold
  • Eligible resizing
  • Repair of manufacturing defects

The warranty does not normally cover:

  • Loss or theft
  • Accidental impact or damage
  • Misuse
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Work completed by an unauthorised jeweller
  • Loss of a centre diamond caused by accidental damage

Customers should add valuable jewellery to an appropriate home-contents or specialist jewellery-insurance policy. An insurance valuation can be supplied upon request.
