Focus on Dimensions

Check the actual mm length and width dimensions (noted on the diamond certificate) of the Marquise diamond not just the carat weight. A well cut 0.9ct Marquise shape will have better dimensions, and look bigger, than many 1ct Marquise cut diamonds. This helps to maximize visual impact and reduce the cost.

Clarity Matters with Princess

With Asscher cut diamonds try and select ones with VS1 clarity or better to ensure that the diamond is eye clean.

Whilst 1 carat diamonds are all the same weight the visual appearance that different shapes have can be vary. For example a 1 carat oval shape that has been well cut will have a much larger spread when compared to a princess shape diamond with a thick girdle. If you’re looking for a 1 carat with maximum visual impact then a marquise shape could be the one for you.

How To Get Value
If you’re looking for a bit more value than buying a diamond just under the 1 carat mark offers a significant reduction in price but a very similar visual appearance. For example a well cut 0.9 carat round diamond is only 10% lighter than a 1 carat but costs around 30% less. This is primarily because 1 carat diamonds are in demand so expect to pay a premium for them.
